I dont understand why software can’t just work.

I have had the pleasure of migrating a sites “Desktop Management” solution from Novells ZENworks for Desktops to Microsofts SMS.

After using SMS, I now affectionately know it as Some Microsoft Sh!t.

If someone from Microsoft wants to talk to me about their software, then drop me an email. I will be glad to share my experiences with you. Hell, show me the money and I’ll make it “admin friendly”.

SMS definately does not manage the Desktop environment,.. it just is a glorified version of the AT command.

As you can probably guess my background is with Novell products. You’re right.. that would explain my feelings towards SMS. I have been spoilt by Novells ZENworks for Desktops and know what a Desktop Management solution should do

... but Novell’s solution isnt perfect.

Novell have some great products, but they too have their problems. ZENworks for Desktops leaves SMS for dead when it comes to “managing” the desktop environment, BUT, the Desktop Management Agent has been buggy since day dot.

It has all of the functionality, but a lot of it just doesnt work how it should.

Why is it that Linux has soo many flavours? Why can’t the community just pick one and make it perfection? Unfortunately for us, we have to deal with this rubbish each and every day. What this site does aim to do is provide the community with answers that I have found (or have come up with) to problems I have encountered.
